According to this 2022 blog post, this story was rejected by ''Argosy'' in 1929 and remained unpublished until 1967. Note, however, that the version which appeared in the 1967 Lancer collection "King Kull" was heavily edited and expanded by {{A|Lin Carter}}. The version that appeared in the 1976 collection "King Kull" was edited by {{A|Glenn Lord}} to remove Carter's changes and restore Howard's original text. The blog author's conclusion is that "The plot, the story contents, and the conclusion are the same as in the original REH version".
