The earliest Father Brown story • published as "The Blue Cross" September 1910 in UK monthly The Storyteller • first published 1910-07-23 in US weekly The Saturday Evening Post 183.4 as "The Innocence of Father Brown: Valentin Follows a Curious Trail", with illustrations by George Gibbs The first publication closes, "Editor's Note: This is the first of a series of six tales of Father Brown by Mr. Chesterton.
