Because France was under the control of Germany when this book was published, and Saint-Exupéry's works were banned by the occupying authorities, the book could not be published in France. Reynal & Hitchcock published both English and French versions in the US. The English version was released about a week before the French, but because the original manuscript was written in French, we view the French version as the "canonical title".
