Tom Swift [1]

40 stories Published in hardcover with dustjacket by Grosset & Dunlap (#1-38). Tom Swift is one of many children's novel series created by the founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, {{a|Edward L. Stratemeyer}} (1862-1930). The stories were written by hired ghostwriters from the start. TomSwift.net calls them "basically adventure tales with Tom's latest invention being heavily involved in the plot." Tom Swift grows up slowly but marries his longtime girlfriend in 1929 (not to be repeated by younger Stratemeyer stars). Later Tom Swift series, 1954 to present, feature the son of the original, with father more or less active as Tom Swift Sr., CEO of Swift Enterprises.
