Eldritch Tales

A fanzine specializing in Weird Tales-style fiction that was published from 1975 until 1995, with a second run beginning in 2017. In its first incarnation, the publication was edited by Crispin Burnham and was mainly published by Kansas' Yith Press. It was initially conceived as a companion to the non-fiction fanzine Dark Messenger, and so the first issue, appearing in 1975, was titled Dark Messenger Reader per the Lovecraft Wiki. The next issue did not appear until March 1978, and was counted as No. 3, the second issue having been misplaced in the intervening years. Three more issues appeared on a biennial basis in 1975-76, then the zine went through a lengthy period as an annual, published once a year from 1980 through 1986. (The issue published in 1981 was the "lost" issue, and was numbered No. 2.) From 1987 until 1995, no two consecutive years had the same number of issues, ranging from one to four. The title was revived in 2017 by Robert M. Price, initially under the aegis of Necronomicon Press. Price's first issue was renumbered as Volume 2, Number 1, and bore the motto "The Un-Unique Magazine," a play on Weird Tales billing itself as the "Unique Magazine." Necronomicon Press published three more issues in 2018 and two in 2019; after a gap in 2020-21, Price resumed publication in 2021.
