• Only seven hand-written and illustrated manuscript copies were created, and only one was originally sold (at charity auction) at a 2007 Sotheby's auction. The "£1,950,000.00" is the actual original price rather than an "official" price (for which there was none). A second copy, the one given by Rowling to publisher Barry Cunningham (who signed up the original book for Bloomsbury) was set for auction at Sotheby's on 2016-12-13. The price for that copy is not known at the time this entry was made.

• The cover shown here is from that 2016 Sotheby's auction copy. The gems on the cover are rhodochrosite, which Rowling notes are "traditionally associated with love, balance and joy in daily life". The gems on the cover of the 2007 auction copy are moonstones, which are representative of "mothers, lovers and the power of dreams".
