• Year of publication from the title page. Month of publication from Locus #242 (March 1981).
• Gutter code "K49" on page 180 indicates a printing in December 1980.
• "Jacket by Paul Bacon" printed on the back flap of the dustjacket.
• Stories have been divided into two parts on the contents page. "Part One: Close to Home" are the first seven stories from page 3 through 122. "Part Two: Far From Home" are the remaining six stories from page 123 through 181. Each part also has a title page.
• There is also a contents listing on the back of the dustjacket which also divides the stories into the same parts, but Part One are the "Far From Home" stories and Part Two are the "Close to Home" stories. The order of the stories is different than actually printed in the book, and there is a story in the "Far From Home" part which is not in the book at all. It lists the title "The Machine That Hustled Pool"; this uncollected story was published in Nugget, February 1961, retitled "The Pool Hustlers" because Tevis had recently published his novel The Hustler.
