ISFDB provides cover images that credit the author as "D. Lawson Johnstone" (UK 1892) and "D. L. Johnstone" (US 1893). One short name is found in most if not all newspaper notices, reviews, and advertisements, but the UK title page (viewed at HathiTrust) shows the fullname, which WorldCat records report for both eds.

Second (first illustrated) edition. This book was issued with and without an inserted publisher's catalogue. The text of this edition is somewhat rearranged and is condensed by about 2000 words - L. W. Currey. Not dated. Bleiler, below, gives the date of this edition as 1894. Several sale listings, including L.W. Currey give the 1893 date. One listing dates the book by the ads bound in the back.

Publication date (inferred) and price from listings in The Athenaeum -10-22 p553, "List of New Books", as "cr. 8vo. 3/6. cl."; and The Scotsman 1892-11-07 p2, "W. R. Chambers's New Books for Gifts and Prizes". The latter is the earliest publisher advertisement found, and is found also -11-12 in three Saturday weeklies.
