Notes
- 15 stories, 4 in the Bastable Children series and 11 others
- The original Contents list (1st ed, p.vii) includes two subheadings, "Oswald Bastable" and "Others"
- "As a book about children and for children ... [it] is wholly admirable. The youngsters in these charming stories are natural and healthy, and they are involved in the most fantastic adventures as if it were quite easy to be transported back to the Arabian Nights Most of the stories are modern fairy-tales, but the opening chapters are simply a narrative of scrapes and misadventures, related with much quiet humour." --Manchester Guardian 1905-12-23 p5, in full except bibliographic data
- Publ date inferred from listing in "New Books" The Scotsman 1905-11-27 p2 under "Christmas and Gift Books" (no price; this is not one of about a dozen reviewed)
- Price from publisher advert "Wells Gardner, Darton, & Co.'s New List." The Scotsman -12-21 p2; this one "Large Crown 8vo, Gilt Top, Cloth Boards, 6/." Also from review Manchester Guardian -12-23 p5 (see Container Title).
- Other information from a Google scan of a Harvard University original.
- The title page states "Illustrated by Charles E. Brock and H. R. Millar". However, each illustration is by one or the other, with the applicable signature discernible in each case. (Some of the stories were previously published in The Strand Magazine with illustrations by Millar. Brock also illustrated stories in that monthly magazine.)
- WorldCat (OCLC, below) reports 22 leaves of plates. List of Illustrations, p.ix-x, lists 23 (frontispiece, title page, and 21 plates not included in the pagination).
