Notes
Novel is divided into three parts:

- Part Two: The Young Macauley (Chapters Four - Ten)
- Part Three: The Return of the Pretender (Chapters Eleven - Sixteen)

- "Two thousand copies of this book have been printed..." stated on the verso of the page following page 268.
- "Jacket Painting" (over) "John Picacio" (over) "Jacket Design" (over) "Lynne Condellone" printed on the back flap of the dustjacket.
- This "mosaic" novel is divided into these parts, "Part One: The Ferryman's Wife" (pages 3-70, chapters 1-5), "Part Two: The Young Macauley" (page 71-160, chapters 6-10), and "Part Three: The Return of the Pretender" (pages 161-264, chapters 11-16). The stories which were used to create the novel are listed in the notes of the title record.
