Notes
The stories that become the Arabian Nights developed during the 8th-12th century. The oldest extant version known is a 14th or 15th Syrian edition in the Bibliothèque National (France). The first translation into a European language was the Galland translation (of this Syrian edition) into French in 1704. This first translation into English was done anonymously in 1706 from the Galland translation. For more details, see the Wikipedia entry above.
In this title listing, we include various translations known (or assumed) to be based on this original Galland translation. For other editions based on other translations (or interpretations), see the title series of which this is a member.
The Longman edition is listed only under its first printing, in 1725. This was reprinted many times. Reported 18th century print dates (with editions and OCLC numbers where known, or inferred from other editions) are:
- 1725 (4th ed), {{OCLC|745103272}}, {{OCLC|745103251}}, and {{OCLC|190794576}};

- Arabian nights entertainments: consisting of one thousand and one stories told by the Sultaness of the Indies to divert the Sultan from the execution of a bloody vow he had made to marry a lady every day and have her cut off next morning, to avenge himself for the disloyalty of his first sultaness, &c
- In 2 volumes. Uncredited English translation from the French edition of Antoine Galland.
- Data from the University of New Brunswick library, which gives the publication date as "1706-1717".
- Based on OCLC records, the original 1706 edition was reprinted several times, sometimes become longer. This is consistent with the fact that the Galland translation was not completed until 1717, hence it seems likely that later printings of this edition include more of the stories. This is probably the source of the New Brunswick record entry for the publication dates of "1706-1717".
