This edition of Vathek (1786) returns the "Episodes of Vathek" which were cut from the published version of the novel, and published in a separate volume more than a century after the first edition. The episodes have been re-edited back to their original positions in the novel.

Stated first printing. Title page reads "The History of the Caliph Vathek / Including the Episodes of Vathek / An Arabian Tale by / William Beckford / with the Original Notes". The Carter introduction explains that the stories from The Episodes of Vathek have been inserted in the novel where were intended to occur.
