The only known speculative fiction in this title is "Let Loose", which was included only in some editions. It was omitted from the 1902 UK edition because the publishers feared that the story may have been influenced by F. G. Loring's story The Tomb of Sarah. In this edition, a footnote from the author notes that "Let Loose" was published some years before Loring's. Editors adding publications to this title should verify first that they include this story.
Apparent first publication. Some editions of this book include the supernatural tale "Let Loose"; others do not. Partial contents listing here includes only the one story known to be speculative fiction. Other stories included are "Moth and Rust", "Geoffrey's Wife", and "The Pitfall".
