The source of the chapter mapping is References (Hothouse). The duplication of Chapter 6 is as stated in the essay and is presumably erroneous.
The US variant, The Long Afternoon of Earth, is slightly abridged from the UK edition - the US didn't get a full Hothouse till 1976. The major cuts from Hothouse are as follows:

• First third of Chapter 14
• Last third of Chapter 18
• Four paragraphs in Chapter 25

Additionally, there are many other minor cuts and textual variations.
