An accountant from 1895, Wright started devoting time to his literary work following his retirement. He was founder of the Empire Poetry League and was editor of <i>Poetry</i> from 1920 to 1932. He wrote numerous mystery and detective novels, some under the pseudonym <b><i>Sydney Fowler</i></b>. He completed Sir Walter Scott's <i>The Siege of Malta</i>.
