Studied first to become a school teacher but went abroad in 1985 and became a diving teacher for most of his working life. He began to publish science fiction novels in 2015. Has chosen his pseudonym to acknowledge the commander Cliff Allister McLane of the German space opera tv series 'Raumpatrouille' of the 1960s. Lived as of 2023 in the Greek part of Cyprus.
