Hoppenstand, the editor of ''The Nightmare and Other Tales of Dark Fantasy'' cites the work of R. Alain Everts in determining her actual birth date. Hoppenstand also cites an autobiographical sketch, reprinted in the 1984 edition of ''Citadel of Fear'', which indicates that she also sold a much earlier story to Argosy, presumably "The Curious Experience of Thomas Dunbar".
