Barbara Goldowsky was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1950. She then spent her teenage years in Chicago, also studying literature and journalism at the University of Chicago. From a 1989 biography: "Barbara Goldowsky is a freelance writer, journalist, poet and producer of special programming for WPBX Public Radio at Long Island University, Southampton. She has published several poetry collections. She has hosted and produced several radio shows, including <i>Poets Corner Live</i>, <i>A Look at the Arts</i>, and <i>Writers Wrap</i>. She has been visiting writer/instructor for the Taproot workshops of Suffolk County. She is married to inventor/musician Norman Pickering and has two sons by her first marriage."
